St George Greek Orthodox Church – 364 First Street, S.E.

On March 21, 1931, a dedicated group of Greek immigrants conceived a dream of establishing a Greek Orthodox church in Massillon.  On Palm Sunday, April 22, 1951, the dream was realized as the first service was held in this newly built church.

Growth continued and in 1998, the St. George community completed one of its most ambitious projects; the construction of its beautiful cultural center, which is the venue for countless local events including an annual Greek festival.

However, the crowning point in beautifying this holy temple of God took place in 2001, with the interior addition of religious icons rendered in the ancient Christian Byzantine motif.

Directions: Walk north (toward downtown) on First Street Southeast, just one block to find another church.  Proceed to the corner of Tremont to get a good look at it.
