Follow the orange arrows on the signs as you walk

The “Canal Days” mural by Eric Grohe, Massillon’s first large public art, earned a first place award in national competition.  It depicts an idealized scene along the Ohio and Erie Canal.  Washington High School students posed as the figures in the foreground.

The location for this mural is especially appropriate, as the Senior Center was built right over the course of the defunct canal.  The economically vital warehouse that initiated Massillon’s early prosperity stood adjacent to that building, here where the parking lot is now.

Mayor Cicchinelli led the fundraising campaign for this mural.

Directions: Keep walking past the tall Lincoln Professional Building to the corner.  Cross Erie Street and turn right onto Erie Street.  Walk one short block to Diamond Court and turn left toward The Hideaway sign.
