Like the Sugar Bowl, the Ideal Company started on West Center.  The Hess-Snyder Company built this nine-story structure in 1918 to house an enlarged Ideal department store on the first few floors and offices on the upper stories.  The Ideal operated until the mid-1900s.  The Peoples Merchants Bank was based here for awhile, and now the upper floors have been converted to 66 subsidized apartments.

Directions: Walk to the corner of First Street Southeast.  Cross Lincoln Way and stop on the opposite side.
