The 1851 Block

Looking across Lincoln Way, you see a row of early-looking buildings, some with their original cornices.  They are, however, all the second buildings on that land.  An 1851 fire took the entire block, precipitating the city’s investment in more modern firefighting equipment.  Unfortunately, the beautiful Conrad Building at the center of the block was severely damaged by another fire in 2009.
