David Canary
(1938–2015)



The 1955 co-captain of the Massillon Tigers, David Canary was an All-Ohio football player; he was named All American five years later when he played for the University of Cincinnati.
An actor, playwright, and producer, he made his Broadway debut in 1961; had parts in the films Hombre and St. Valentine’s Day Massacre; made guest appearances in Peyton Place, Bonanza, and Gunsmoke on television; and played two long-standing roles in All My Children on daytime television. He won five Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actor in a dramatic series, Daytime Magazine’s “Most Valuable Player” Award, and Soap Opera Digest’s “Outstanding Villain” award.
