Charles Grapewin

(1870ā€“1956)

A famed character actor, Charles Grapewin spent his boyhood in Massillon. His father, who spelled his name with an ā€œeā€ at the end, owned the Hotel Massillon near the Pennsylvania Railroad depot.

Grapewin wrote and acted in numerous Broadway productions, but he is best remembered for his movie roles in Tobacco Road, The Grapes of Wrath, The Wizard of Oz, They Died with Their Boots On, The Good Earth, Johnny Apollo, The Front Page, and Captains Courageous.
